JOB Description— Associate Pastor of Youth and Family Ministry

The Associate Pastor shall be a spiritual leader of the church working directly with Youth and Young Families, coordinating their education under the guidance and leadership of the pastor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Shall be a Christian, in good standing of a Baptist Church, and in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention on June 14, 2000.
  • Must be committed to the Gospel Ministry and a sense of divine Call as a minister.
  • Should have sufficient education, training, skills, and experience to serve in this capacity.

RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Under the supervision of and reportsdirectly to the Pastor.
  • Works in close cooperation with the other members of the church staff.
  • Works in close cooperation with the Finance Committee and Treasurer, by submitting budget requests and administering expenditures within the limits of the church budget.
  • Communicate directly with parents/guardians on a regular basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ministry

  • Minister to the youth and young families of the church.
  • Be available to serve as pulpit supply in the absence of the senior pastor.
  • Lead by example in evangelism.
  • Be sensitive and available to the needs of the youth and their families; plus other young families of the church.
  • Work with the church mission team to assist them in planning church-wide mission trips.

Administration

  • Work with the Church Council in developing and implementing church objectives, including coordinating and scheduling church-related activities.
  • Work with the Sunday School Director and leaders in planning then implementing a program of Christian Education with the purpose of furthering people’s relationship with God and growth as disciples.
  • Inform the Church of scheduled youth programs and events through publications and announcements.
  • Provide written reports for quarterly business meetings and monthly Outlook publications and other administrative tasks as needed.

Outreach

  • Plan and implement outreach events in the community.
  • Develop and maintain an adequate prospect file.
  • Help in the decision and accomplishment of long-range plans.
  • Promote good public relations.

Youth

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a program of discipleship with the purpose of aiding youth in the maturation of their relationship with God.
  • Provide discipling guidance to parents.
  • Develop a Youth Council with the purpose of planning youth activities.
  • Prepare and administer an annual youth budget in consultation with the Finance Committee, Youth Council, and the Youth Committee.

Young Families

  • Provide outreach opportunities to engage young families in our Church.
  • Develop discipleship programs for the spiritual growth of young families.

Education

  • Stay informed about educational trends, teaching-learning processes and new teaching curriculum.
  • Be given the opportunity to attend conventions, assemblies, and conferences subject to the approval of the senior pastor and within convention and conference expense allocations for the year.

GENERAL:

  • Be available to work extended hours and during weekends.
  • Schedule personal and vacation time in advance.
  • Notify the senior pastor in the event of unscheduled leaves of absences as soon as possible.  If the senior pastor, isn’t available then notify the chairman of deacons.
  • Shall be given the opportunity for two Sundays each year away from the Church for ministerial activities not in conjunction with FBC of Lexington.  This is in addition to the regular vacation time and is to be scheduled with and subject to the approval of the senior pastor.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • The salary, benefits, vacation and sick leave are identified in the Personnel Policies and Procedures guide.

Termination:

  • The Associate Pastor of Youth and Family Ministry shall serve until the relationship is terminated at his request or by the church.
