First Baptist Church of Lexington, MO is seeking a Music Minister who has a passion for worship and leading people in worship. While we are looking for someone with experience, knowledge and ability, attitude is as important as giftedness or skill. The right candidate will need to be proficient in leading both a choir and praise band for a blended worship experience. Creativity and charisma are highly valued. Ideally, we are looking for an individual who will not only see this as a job, but will make a personal commitment to this congregation which welcomes all people.


  • Lead Music for Sunday morning worship service (10:30 a.m.), and seasonal, as well as any special services/observances throughout the year. Wednesday evening rehearsals. 
  • Work closely with the Ministerial staff in preparing to prepare weekly service layout.
  • Lead choir rehearsal and praise team practice at least one night a week
  • Chair/Lead/Build the choir and praise team.
  • Network with musicians and singers through-out the community in order to recruit people and grow the music program, as well as children and youth music programs.
  • Must have a growing and maturing but not perfect relationship with Jesus Christ and a strong desire for the church to succeed and grow.
  • Report directly to the Pastor.
  • Up to 7 days of paid vacation time to start after 6 months
  • Responsible for getting a replacement, in consultation with the pastor, when taking time off
  • Requires 15-20 hours per week

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Music or demonstrable equivalent experience in worship music.
  • Must pass a background.
  • Knowledge of and experience in sacred music.
  • Knowledge of and ability in musical instruments – guitar and piano strongly preferred.
  • Skills in recruiting, directing, and leading music team and choir members.


  • Under the supervision of and reports directly to the Pastor.
  • Works in close cooperation with the other members of the church staff.
  • Works in close cooperation with the Finance Committee and Treasurer, by submitting budget requests and administering expenditures within the limits of the church budget.
  • Communicate directly with choir or praise band members on a regular basis.


  • Help plan and implement musical outreach events in the community.
  • Help in the decision and accomplishment of long-range plans.
  • Promote good public relations.


  • Stays informed about educational trends, teaching-learning processes.
  • Be given the opportunity to attend conventions, assemblies, and conferences subject to the approval of the senior pastor and within convention and conference expense allocations for the year.


  • Be available to work extended hours and during weekends and other times required to assemble and present weekly music ministry.
  • Schedule personal and vacation time in advance.
  • Notify the senior pastor in the event of unscheduled leaves of absences as soon as possible.  If the senior pastor, isn’t available then notify the chairman of deacons.
  • Shall be given the opportunity for two Sundays each year away from the Church for ministerial activities not in conjunction with FBC of Lexington.  This is in addition to the regular vacation time and is to be scheduled with and subject to the approval of the senior pastor.
